Derek V. Abreu

Derek V. Abreu served as counsel to Preszler Injury Lawyers, bringing extensive experience in complex, high-stakes litigation across multiple provinces. Before joining the firm in March 2020, he spent a decade as a Partner at a leading downtown Toronto law firm, recognized as one of Canada’s top insurance litigation boutiques. Over the course of his career, Derek has earned a reputation as a strong, fearless advocate and has acted as counsel in more than 45 reported decisions.

Derek has successfully represented clients at all levels of court in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta, including trial and appeal work before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

His practice focuses on institutional abuse claims, long-term disability disputes, catastrophic injury cases involving brain and spinal cord injuries and psychiatric disorders, and premises liability matters.
