Kelly Serbu, B.A., LL.B., Q.C.

Kelly has practiced law for over 20 years specializing in personal injury, human rights cases, sexual assault and criminal law. Kelly was appointed to the Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Nova Scotia, Diana Whalen in 2017. Kelly has spent he last several years assisting the Honourable Michel Bastarache, QC., CC., former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, as Senior Counsel, evaluating the Merlo Davidson Class Action Settlement claims. This case dealt with gender based discrimination and sexual harassment in the RCMP.

Kelly was also involved as an adjudicator with t with the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat (IRSAS) from 2008 to 2019. Kelly was also involved in assisting with the evaluation of claims in relation to the Nova Scotia Home for Colored Children Class Action Settlement from 2015 to 2016. Kelly is proud of his Metis heritage and continues to be involved in that community. Kelly is visually impaired and is the Captain of the National Canadian Blind Hockey Team, and the President of Canadian Blind Hockey charity. The goal of the charity is to provide access to visually impaired children, youths and adults across the country with access to sports like hockey.
